Marlee's First Musical

We took Marlee to see the Shallowford Falls Elementary School production of The Wizard of Oz last night.  Grammy is a drama coach, and Auntie Jenna works stage crew, so we had a personal interest in the show.

Marlee LOVED it!  She sat through the entire first half (a little over an hour), got a backstage tour during intermission, then enjoyed about 30 minutes of the second half before she was ready to go home and go to bed.  Her little feet were dancing with every song, and she even waved her arms above her head during a particularly rousing number.  I really only expected her to last about 20 minutes, but she was totally into it.  Like mother, like daughter!

Her only suggestion:  Grammy, pick a show with more animals next time!  Toto was good, but more is always better.

Holy Belly, Batman!

17 weeks pregnant with MJ

9.5 weeks pregnant with Slim

Oh boy!

Sentences and an Ouch

Marlee is starting to string words together.  Her first sentence was "More blueberries, please!"  Just now, my cell rang with Michael's distinctive ring, and she said, "Momma, it's Daddy!"  It amazes me how much she's talking and how quickly it started.

While I was typing this post, MJ fell and split her lip open.  The tears have stopped, and we're treating the wound with a popsicle.  It's her first bleeding injury. :(

There was just so much blood...mouths are like that.  It was awful.  I'm sure it won't be the last time!  Sniff.

Thank You, God

One and a Half!

MJ is 18 months old today...we're on our way to 2!  Where does the time go?

On the Potty Train

While we were at the cabin, Marlee said, "Poopy, mama."  I took her to the potty, and she did!  It's the first time she's actually told me before the fact.  Usually, I just catch her and take her in, or she tells me when she's finished.  I'm considering this a major accomplishment...even if it was just once. :)

Weekend Away

We went up to the cabin in Blairsville this weekend with The Buttses, The Schugs, and The Exleys.  It was so nice to get away...the parents got to relax a bit, and the kids had a great time playing together.  Marlee learned some new words...all of her friends' names!  I was pretty bad about taking pictures, so I'll post some when I get them from the other families!

It's Not an Apple

I can't get this to upload to blogger, but it's worth watching...silly girl!

Sleeping!

I've waited a while so as not to jinx myself, but I think it's safe to say that Marlee is finally sleeping all night!  She's made it to at least 5:30 the past 10 days or so.  When she wakes up, she snuggles in bed with us and sleeps a bit longer...until 7:30 or 8.  It works out perfectly...I get a good night's sleep and the extra snuggle time too!

Now if only my pregnancy insomnia would let me enjoy the uninterrupted sleep... :(

A Couple of Pics

From our trip to the park this afternoon.

Valentine's Day Weekend

It's been such a great weekend...and it's not over yet! Michael has the day off, so we're enjoying the three-day weekend.

Friday night we went out and bought a new camera. Our old one had seen better days. It was really nice when we bought it five years ago, but now it's slow and outdated...and it was dying. We got a great deal on a basic digital camera with a "high-speed burst" mode. It that setting, it takes seven pictures a second, so we should be able to capture all those cute MJ moments we missed with our old one, which took seven seconds to take one picture. :)

Saturday was Valentine's Day. I had planned on cooking the family a fun breakfast, but was feeling some pretty bad morning sickness and didn't want to deal with cooking smells, so we went out. After breakfast, we walked to the park, and Marlee played for a long time. While she napped, Michael and I got ready for our date. Grammy came over around 3, and we went out for an early dinner and movie. Our dinner was amazing, and the movie (He's Just Not That Into You) was cute.

Yesterday we went to Ikea for lunch (mmm...Swedish meatballs!) and a bit of browsing. We are beginning to shop for Marlee's new room, because we want to have it ready before the new baby arrives. We found some things we like, so we'll get started on that in a few weeks. The rest of the day was not so great-- more morning sickness. I pretty much hung out on the sofa until bedtime.

I'm not sure if I'm more sick this time around or if it's just harder because I have a toddler. I do seem to remember napping under my desk at work on occasion. I'm really looking forward to the end of morning sickness. Hopefully not too much longer!

How Are You Feeling?

Tired.
Nauseated.
Nervous.
Incredibly Blessed.

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday, and we were able to see the baby's heartbeat for the second time.  This time we got a reading...it's beating away at a wonderful 139 bpm.  The doc says everything looks perfect.  The pictures leave a bit to be desired, so I'll just give you this:

A plump blueberry. Our baby is about this size :)

Word is traveling more quickly than planned, so there's no use hiding it here!  Take a look around.

Some Stuff About Marlee

I know I've been terrible about blogging.  I'm sorry.  Things have just been a little, um, off, lately.  I do feel bad that I haven't kept up with Marlee's online baby book.

Here's a bit about her these days:

Her personality has evolved so much, but in many ways, I feel like it is the same as a year ago.  I really don't know how to explain this.  It's like, when she was just 6 months old, I would have predicted her to be exactly the toddler she is today.  She's sweet, affectionate, and kind...but fiesty.  She's well-behaved and rarely gets into things she shouldn't.  When she does, a simple "that's not for you, please walk away" usually does the trick.  I said usually. She's not without temper tantrums, but they're usually because she isn't capable of doing the things she wants to do...like push the shopping cart at Target.

Her curiosity and thrist for knowledge is amazing.  She constantly wants to know what things are and how they work.  She is especially fascinated with animals, and can point out over 50 different ones, no matter if they are in her book, on television, or on posters we see out and about.  The names of said animals make up a good part of her vocabulary.  Recent additions are alligator, sea horse, and her favorite, cougar.  Raaawr.

She's talking a lot more, even just this week.  Her words are still a bit garbled (with unnecessary "sh" sounds), but it's easy to tell what she's saying.  Some come out crystal clear...like Elmo, unfortunately.  Even with her growing vocabulary, she's still a big fan of the grunt.

She loves the movie Charlotte's Web.  Really loves it.  A whole lot.  I can't believe I haven't blogged about this before.  She would watch it all day, every day if I'd let her.  I don't mind her watching it.  It's a sweet story with good music, and it's not overstimulating like so many cartoons.  I turn it on, and she cheers.  I figured she just liked watching the talking animals in "the piggy movie," but apparently she's taking it in.  I bought her a Charlotte's Web, the Movie book from a consignment store, and she pointed to the cover and said, "Wilbur!"  I had no idea she knew their names.

At the same consignment store, we also bought her a doll/stuffed animal stroller and a Little Tykes Cozy Coupe car.  You know the one.  They've been around for.ever.  She loves that car.  I had intended for it to be an outside toy (it's awfully big, and our house is small), but Michael brought it in from the car, and it's been in the living room ever since.  She eats her snacks in it and even watches Charlotte's Web like our living room is a drive-in theater.

She's less into her baby dolls and more into her stuffed animals, especially the smaller ones.  She has two favorites, Ovejita and Kitty, which go with her just about everywhere.  They even get to ride up front in her new car.  The others go in the trunk.  Her real live animal friends are just as wonderful.  She and Georgie are inseperable, and Marlee really loves Bogey, though he wants nothing to do with her.

She's still a pretty good eater, but she' gotten a bit more picky.  She doesn't eat meat, but loves beans for protein.  She eats a big breakfast, but wants nothing to do with lunch.  Instead, she snacks all afternoon.  Fortunately, she'ss happy snacking on things like fruit and peas.

Sleep?  Well, that's still up in the air.  As always, she goes down for naps and bedtime without a fuss.  But she's up every night between 2 and 4.  At least she goes right back to sleep.

She's really an amazing kid.  We're so blessed to have her in our life :)
